Work out the stud length to order for a flanged joint. Enter the grip, choose single nuts, double nuts or a tensioner end, and the calculator adds nut heights, washers and protrusion and rounds up to an orderable length. Values are for reference; confirm against the current edition of the governing standard. Send us your bolting list for a quote or call (281) 581-0176.

How the length is built up
- Grip: both flange thicknesses including raised faces, plus the compressed gasket.
- Washers: through-hardened flange washers if used (see Through-Hardened Flange Washers).
- Nuts: ASME B18.2.2 heavy hex nut height at each end. For double nutting, a heavy hex jam nut goes inside and a full heavy hex nut outside (PCC-1 J-8.2.2).
- Protrusion: a full thread or more past each nut. PCC-1 Sec. 9 asks for minimal protrusion at one end, with any excess at the other end, and cautions against excessive protrusion.
- Tensioner end: at least one bolt diameter (1D) of stud past the nut so the tool can grip it (PCC-1 Sec. 9 and Q-4.5).
- Rounding: up to the next 1/4 in. Lengths are first thread to first thread, not counting the points, the same way ASME B16.5 lists them.
Check against the B16.5 chart
For standard raised face and ring joint flanges, compare your result with the ASME B16.5 Flange Bolting Chart. Use the calculator when you add washers, double nuts, tensioners, spacers or non-standard gaskets.
