Why Engineers Specify Monel 400 Heavy Hex Bolts
Monel 400 has been used in seawater and acid service for about a century. In bolting, it is chosen where stainless steel would pit or crack and copper alloys are not strong enough.
- Seawater. It resists fast-flowing and warm seawater, brackish water and steam.
- Hydrofluoric acid. It is a standard material for HF alkylation units, where most stainless steels are not suitable.
- Chloride stress-corrosion cracking. It has excellent resistance to the chloride cracking that affects 300-series stainless.
- Toughness. It keeps good ductility at low temperatures.
