What is the difference between Grade 5 and Grade 8?
Grade 8 is alloy steel with 150 ksi minimum tensile. Grade 5 is medium-carbon steel with 120 ksi through 1 in.
Which J429 fasteners does Patriot Bolt make?
We machine Grade 5 and Grade 8 hex cap screws, heavy hex bolts and matching J995 nuts.
What if I need Grade 8 strength above 1-1/2 in?
SAE J429 stops at 1-1/2 in. Specify ASTM A354 BD for Grade 8 strength, or A449 for Grade 5 strength, in larger sizes.
