Metallurgy Selector: Chemical and Temperature Compatibility

Built to spec. Made in Texas.

Pick the process media, the operating temperature range and whether the joint is in sour service, and the selector ranks common bolting materials as recommended, conditional or not suitable. Use the Chemical Matrix to compare every material against every medium, and Temperature Ranges to see where each grade holds full strength. Patriot Bolt manufactures studs, bolts and nuts in all of these materials. Send us your bolting list for a quote or call (281) 581-0176.

How to use these ratings. Ratings are general guidance for each material at ambient temperature and moderate concentration. Temperature, concentration, aeration, velocity, contaminants and crevices can all change the result, and stress corrosion cracking or hydrogen embrittlement can occur where general corrosion is low. Temperature limits are typical bolting values; the governing code (ASME B31.1, B31.3 or Section VIII), the bolting specification and the end user’s engineering standards set the actual limits. *Sour service ratings assume the hardness and heat-treatment limits of NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 are met and are confirmed on the order. Confirm the final material selection with the responsible engineer.
